Tom Turkey came to live at Hillside Acres about four years ago. He spent most of his time greeting people as they came into the driveway and hanging out with the dogs. Tom didn't really care for adults but loved all of the little kids that came over. He eventually got more aggressive and with careful consideration for the safety of visitors, we invited a 9 year old boy on the property to shoot the bird. Later we found out that he is the world record holder in weight at 37 pounds 2 ounces, his beard was 12-6/16 inches long, and spurs at 1-3/16 and 1-1/16 inches. Tom's total measurement calculation at 84-6/16 inches which ties the official overall world record Rio Grande and is the Oregon state record Rio Grande! Tom turkey will be missed because he brought so many fond memories. |
